International Day of Yoga 2020

Taking a small hiatus from our usual posts in all things eCommerce. We wanted to take the time to celebrate the International Day of Yoga 2020 which takes place on June 21st. Yoga matches with our core values: Excellence, Fun, Open(ing our minds). We’ve managed even to incorporate teamwork into the mix during the Covid-19 pandemic as you’ll see in our photos.

International Day of Yoga 2020

The word ‘yoga’ derives from Sanskrit and means to join or unite, symbolising the connection between consciousness and the body. Who do you think uttered such a timely, thought-provoking quote?

"Friends, the Covid-19 pandemic may have reduced our mobility, but it should not affect our enthusiasm for yoga."

  1. The guy with a pony-tail at your local coffee shop
  2. Michael Jordan
  3. Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi

Yes, you guessed it: Both A and C are correct! Here's India's Prime Minister discussing the International Day of Yoga 2020. And go talk to your local pony-tailed barista for other yoga tips.

At Vaimo, we continue to spread the spirit of inner peace and harmony through yoga even during our remote work. The time-tested techniques of yoga transcend the challenges of today's era and have persisted over millennia. Though challenging to verify, researchers suggest that yoga first appeared in the Indus Valley, now located in modern-day India, nearly 3000 years ago. Numerous types of schools of yoga emerged since then and found their way to people around the world. Vaimo's global offices also share a love for yoga that unites us.

What We talk about when We talk about yoga

In Haruki Murakami's book, "What I Talk About When I Talk About Running," he says: "Running has a lot of advantages: first of all, you don't need anybody else to do it, and no need for special equipment. You don't have to go to any special place to do it. As long as you have running shoes and a good road, you can run to your heart's content."

But doesn't yoga defeat running in its simplicity?

  • You don't need shoes
  • You don't need to go anywhere
  • You don’t need any special equipment
  • You only need a mat

Perhaps, this is why yoga carries such a profound legacy. Additionally, in all other physical activities, you are moving away or towards something. Without getting too philosophical, yoga represents the one physical activity where you battle your mind head-on while remaining still.
